Rick Ware Racing (RWR) announced today that B.J. McLeod would drive the #51 JACOB Companies Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in the Daytona 500. Since McLeod is running the #51, that places Cody Ware in #52 for RWR in the Daytona 500. The team will have both cars as chartered members for the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. Remaining from last year, the #51 has its charter while, the #52 charter was purchased from Front Row Motorsports.
This will be McLeod’s 24th career MENCS start, all except one for RWR, but will mark his Cup debut at Daytona. “I am very excited for this opportunity to drive in the Daytona 500 and represent Rick Ware Racing and JACOB Companies,” said McLeod. “I have a very good relationship with Rick and Don (Perry, CEO of JACOB Companies) and it is an honor to represent them in the biggest race of the year.
“I have a very good history with RWR, and I feel that we have a great shot to surprise a lot of people at Daytona. We made some great strides last season and I look forward to carrying that momentum into the 2019 season.”
Cody Ware will be driving the other RWR entry, the #52 machine. Ware will also be making his Daytona 500 debut to go along with one other restrictor-plate start in the Cup Series. In October 2018 at Talladega, Ware finished 38th driving the #51 RWR Chevrolet.
The 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season-opening Daytona 500 is set for Sunday, Feb. 17 with coverage on FOX, the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM Satellite Radio Channel 90. Event coverage begins at 2:30 p.m. (ET).
