The NASCAR Xfinity Series will meet a new face on Friday night. Hattori Racing Enterprises will field a No. 61 entry for Austin Hill at Daytona International Speedway, marking just the 10th race ever for the race team. Hill will drive a Toyota Supra for HRE, which was a former chassis for Joe Gibbs Racing.
The 25 year old Hill competes full time in HRE’s No. 16 entry in the Gander Outdoors Truck Series. In his debut with the team in February, Hill won a wild race under the lights at Daytona. He has 63 career starts in the Truck Series to this point.
“I can’t wait to get in the car,” Hill said via press release. “Until it happens, you’re never for sure if you’ll get an opportunity at the next level, so I’m ready to go. The Supra looks awesome. This is a big deal for our team. All thanks goes to Shige and AISIN Group for putting this deal together.”
Austin Hill led 39 laps in the season opening race at Daytona before finding victory lane in his Toyota Tundra. He and his entire team will make the jump this weekend to Xfinity Series competition.
“We have some good memories from winning at Daytona earlier this year in the truck, so maybe we can do it again,” Hill said. “We have our entire team from the No. 16 truck along this week and they built a great piece, so we’re certainly going to give it a shot.”
Hill joins an entry list of 42 cars competing for 38 spots on Friday afternoon, meaning four drivers will be sent home after qualifying.
The Xfinity Series race from Daytona can be seen live on NBC Sports Network at 7:30 p.m. ET.
