Top prospect Tyler Ankrum will get his shot in the Truck Series next year, following a championship run in the K&N East Series. Ankrum made that run with DGR-Crosley, who will reward him with a full time ride at the next level in 2019.
Ankrum will drive the No. 17 entry for DGR-Crosley, the same truck that he made two starts in this season. Ankrum produced one top ten finish in those two tries.
Ankrum won four races in K&N East competition in 2018, including three wins in a row at Thompson, New Hampshire and Iowa. He picked up his first career win earlier in the year at South Boston.
Due to NASCAR’s age restrictions, Ankrum will miss the first three speedway events at Daytona, Atlanta and Las Vegas. Ankrum will then turn 18 and become eligible to run the rest of the schedule. Judging by how NASCAR handled the Todd Gilliland situation last season, Ankrum should be granted a waiver for the playoffs if he’s able to race his way into contention.
