2015 NASCAR Cup Series Champion Kyle Busch said on Wednesday that he and Joe Gibbs Racing have “agreed” to a contract extension. Busch noted that nothing had been signed yet, but the discussions have led to an agreement between the two sides.

Busch’s deal was set to expire after the 2019 season.
Since joining Joe Gibbs Racing in 2008, Busch’s career has been pushed to new heights. All but four of his 51 career Cup Series wins have come with JGR, including a career-best eight in 2018. Those eight wins along with 22 top five finishes put Busch once again in the final four at Homestead-Miami.
Gibbs’ contract situation is interesting, particularly with stud prospect Christopher Bell waiting in the Xfinity Series. With Busch secured and now with Martin Truex Jr. in place, that could leave Denny Hamlin or Erik Jones potentially on the chopping block, unless a deal was struck with Leavine Family Racing.
Something is going to have to give soon at JGR.
