MENCS 1000 Bulbs 500 at Talladega: Rain Delayed Until Monday 10/14

Stage 1 – 55 Laps

Green Flag – Leading the field is the Hendrick Motorsports top 4: Chase Elliott, Alex Bowman, William Byron, and Jimmie Johnson, with Aric Almirola, Brad Keselowski, rounding out the top six. Chevy teamwork shows up early at the start of the race, as the Hendrick cars work together to grab the top 4 sports single file on the bottom.

Lap 2 – Bowyer and Keselowski charged hard on the outside to slip in front of the HMS Camaros. After four laps of green flag racing, nearly the entire field has formed a double-file column with leaders Austin Dillon and Keselowski even with each other.

Lap 15 – The first four/five cars are single-file on the bottom line, while Ryan Blaney is trying to advance the top lane. On the bottom is Ku Busch, Ky Busch, A Dillon, Keselowski, Bowyer, Chase, and Bowman.

Lap 19 – Teams are starting to discuss pit strategies and it seems like manufacturers will be working together to ensure drafting help after pitting. The pit window is 35-38 laps.

Lap 28 – Top 10 as they run: Blaney, Harvick, Logano, Stenhouse Jr., Hamlin, Jones, Ku Busch, A Dillon, Ky Busch, Ty Dillon.

Lap 34 – Pit stops are underway as a large group of come to pit road. Trouble for Blaney as he spins into the tri-oval grass while trying to slow down. Next time by another group dives to pit road. During these stops most teams opting for fuel only. In the middle of the cycle, caution for Spencer Boyd stopped on the front stretch. Huge break for Blaney as he was going to go a lap down following his speeding penalty.

Lap 41 – Green flag is displayed to Keselowski and Almirola as they lead the field back up to speed. Keselowski quickly dives to the bottom to lead that line with Ryan Newman up top in the second lane.

Lap 53 – 3 to go in the stage and spotters are reporting light rain where they are positioned. The Chevys of Byron, Bowman, Johnson leading the outside lane while the Fords of Logano, Stenhouse, and Keselowski leading the bottom lane. Byron blocking and switching lanes high to low wins stage 1. The #21 Wood Brothers team will have Paul Menard step out of the car (neck pain) and put Matt Crafton from the NGOTS series in the car to complete the race. Steady rain in Turns 1 and 2 forced NASCAR to thrown the red flag.

NASCAR has made the decision to delay the rest of the race and will resume with the start of Stage 2 on Monday 10/14 at 1:00 PM CT.
