Jeffrey Earnhardt will be in a new ride and a new series in 2019, getting a shot with Joe Gibbs Racing in the Xfinity Series. Earnhardt has spent the last several seasons in bottom tier Cup Series rides, without much success. Following the path that Ryan Preece laid out, Earnhardt will get a chance to prove himself in NASCAR’s premier support series this season.
Earnhardt will pilot the No. 18 ride for JGR in nine events this season, starting with Daytona and Atlanta, the team announced this morning. Earnhardt’s schedule after those two events is listed below.
April 27 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway
May 25 at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway
June 1 at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway
Aug. 10 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio
Aug. 24 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin
Nov. 9 at ISM Raceway near Phoenix
Nov. 16 at Homestead-Miami Speedway
Gibbs also announced that Xtreme Concepts, a security company, will sponsor the No. 18 car for JGR in 24 races this season. The company will be on the hood for Earnhardt, Kyle Busch and Brandon Jones.
Busch is scheduled to compete in five races this Xfinity season, starting at his hometown track in Las Vegas. Phoenix, California, Texas and Watkins Glen will complete his schedule for the 2019 season.
