Eddie Murphy was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes (2023). Jamie Lee Curtis and Tracy Morgan presented him with the award, with Morgan speaking of how Murphy had inspired him. Eddie spoke to “Extra’s” Melvin Robert backstage afterward, remembering how he had won six Golden Globe nominations during his younger years without noticing it. He said that now, as an older man, it warms his heart.
Murphy took the mic after accepting the Golden Globe Award, giving some advice to any up-and-comers in attendance. He stated that there is a “definitive blueprint” for achieving success, which consists of paying taxes, minding your own business, and avoiding Will Smith’s wife’s name.
Joking about Smith and Rock’s incident from last year when Will slapped Rock onstage at the Oscar awards show, Murphy said that if he were hosting the Oscars, he would have worked that joke in somehow but would move on after mentioning it. After cracking the joke, Eddie Murphy showed his love and respect for Will Smith when he gave him a heartfelt shout-out.
The actor is currently working on a new installment of his popular movie series “Beverly Hills Cop.” Murphy expressed his excitement for people to see it and noted how special this movie is to him as they had tried getting it together for years before succeeding. He also has “You People” coming out soon, where he commented on its funny yet edgy feel due to its race conversation theme. Lastly, when asked about his favorite character out of all his movies, Eddie chose Sherman Klump from 1996’s “The Nutty Professor.”
Eddie Murphy leads an exemplary life full of successes achieved by following a strict set of guidelines – something that many can learn from today. His experiences will be treasured for many generations to come as people look back at all his accomplishments in show business throughout the years, especially since winning those six Golden Globe nominations when he was young and unaware of them!
