North Carolina’s Daniel Hemric will take over Richard Childress’ second entry in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series in 2019. The move was announced in October by the legendary organization, but the door was left open for a potential number change.
Ryan Newman piloted the No. 31 entry for Childress over the past several seasons. On Friday, Childress announced that number would change from 31 to 8. Hemric drove the No. 8 in his two Cup starts this year.

That means Childress will now field a No. 3 and a No. 8 entry going forward, which is a heavy nod to the Earnhardt tradition that still lives on today.
