JR Motorsports announced today that a past series champion will be competing in the NASCAR Racing Experience 300 at Daytona International Speedway. Chase Elliott, the 2018 Most Popular Driver in the Monster Energy Cup Series and the Xfinity Champion in 2014, will drive the No. 8 AfterShokz Chevrolet in the Xfinity Series opener JR Motorsports is thrilled to get Chase back into one of their cars.
“This is more than just putting a driver in a car,” said Kelley Earnhardt Miller, JRM general manager. “Chase is family to us and an integral part of our history. He helped kick start our run of championships back in 2014 and has driven our cars to victory in several prestigious events, including a win at Daytona in 2016. We jumped at the chance of having one of our own return for this race.”
JR Motorsports will have four cars entered in the Xfinity race at Daytona: Elliott in the #8 AfterShokz Chevy, Michael Annett in the #1 Pilot Flying J Chevy, Justin Allgaier in the #7 BRANDT Chevy, and rookie Noah Gragson in the #9 Chevy. This marks the first time in 2019 that JR Motorsports will run the #8 car.
“I’m looking forward to getting back behind the wheel for JRM in Daytona,” Elliott said. “Kelley, Dale and the entire organization have been so great to work with over the years. We won this race back in 2016 and this year we’re looking to get back into victory lane with AfterShokz.”
Chase is one of the most talented restrictor-plate racers in both the Xfinity and the Monster Energy Cup Series. Look for him to have a legit shot to win another Daytona race for JR Motorsports.
The NASCAR Racing Experience 300 will be a 120 Lap/300 Mile event and will air on Fox Sports 1 at 2:30 p.m. ET.
